Located in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, The Roof Intervention is a compact residential design built on a 96 m² site, with a total building area of 144 m². Known for its cooler, humid climate, Bogor allows for a design approach that embraces natural ventilation and daylight, contributing to a healthier indoor environment. The architecture responds with a bold industrial modern language, anchored by a single striking gesture a sweeping black metal roof that defines the entire building’s identity.

With a simple space program, the home places its private bedroom functions at the rear, where privacy is prioritized. In response to the client's request for an additional bedroom, a second floor is introduced, but only above the rear portion. This strategic placement creates a stepped massing, low at the front for public zones like the living room, and higher at the back for private spaces. The resulting form is unified beneath one broad sloped roof, which wraps over the facade to become the building’s most iconic visual element.

To break the potential heaviness of the large roof surface, three concrete volumes extend outward, adding depth and rhythm to the facade. The first box extends from the ground floor and becomes a semi-outdoor terrace for welcoming guests. The second volume juts out from the first floor, offering a more private outdoor space for residents. The third, smaller box interrupts the upper middle portion of the roof to introduce a skylight that brings daylight into the core of the house. These forms are carefully staggered to create a layered and dynamic composition, casting shadows and enhancing spatial richness from the street view.

An attic space is tucked beneath the sloped roof, cleverly concealing rooftop utilities to maintain a clean and uncluttered silhouette. Material choices underscore the industrial tone, with black metal panels for the roof and raw exposed concrete for the projecting volumes. To balance this boldness, greenery is introduced in key corners, softening the architectural language while still preserving its raw character.

With ample skylights and the advantage of Bogor’s mild climate, the house naturally breathes, offering a bright, ventilated, and grounded living experience within a tight urban footprint.
